Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge Adventure Club meets at Blue Ridge Elementary, which is located at 2801 Leeway Drive. The average enrollment is 30 students AM/PM. Along with two Part-time Site Facilitators, there are three Site Assistants at the school.

Blue Ridge Adventure Club meets in the school cafeteria, but we also have daily access to the gym and two playgrounds. We also use the computer lab on a weekly basis if available. The computer lab has 22 computers and we have access to numerous disks and educational games. The playgrounds have swings, slides, climbing equipment, basketball goals, tetherball poles, and a sandbox. There is also a field at the edge of the school grounds.

In the morning, parents or authorized adults sign the students in on a sign-in sheet. The sheets, printed in week-long increments, have room for the time the child is signed in and the initials of the person bringing the student to Adventure Club. A Site Facilitator or Site Assistant signs in the students in the afternoon; an authorized parent or other adult must sign them out, noting the time that they left, and initial the sheet.

We also use a "Where am I?" board to keep track of the students. The board has 4 categories: Playground, Cafeteria, Gym, and Not Here. It is the students' responsibility to change their own magnet when they arrive in the morning, when they come in the afternoon, and when they decide to leave one area for another. They must also inform a staff member when they leave one area for another; we utilize walkie-talkies so that we may communicate with one another and ensure a student's arrival from one area to another.

Blue Ridge offers students a safe, fun environment both before and after school. Students can choose to play sports, build with Legos, draw, hang out with friends, read, play large group games or create their own art gallery. Adventure Club is a great opportunity for students to have fun and even learn a thing or two while being supervised by an energetic, caring staff.
